Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale on Monday received backlash for demanding that prior to Gideon Moi's visit to Matiba's family, former President Daniel Moi should have issued a public apology.
Through his social media, he conveyed: "Stranger than fiction! Moi’s son condoling with the Matibas! This should honestly have been preceded by a public apology by retired president Moi, transmitted live."
Kenyans online were less than impressed by Khalwale's tweet with one user quipping: "He is not to blame for the sins of his father."

"Don't you think the people of Baringo have a right to send condolences through their Senator? Uko na siasa ya zamani sana. (Your politics is very outdated)" another wrote.
KANU Party through its official twitter handle responded to Khalwale's tweet stating: "Former President Moi and Matibas have a close bond. Busybodies should keep off. No bull to fight here!"

"You have to do good for yourself let what your father did remains at the graveyard or with him. Gideon is doing good for his own good, not his father's."
"Whatever happened the son had nothing to do with it. Chief why misplace your anger?" one user posed.
On the other hand, some users agreed with Khalwale sentiments with one stating: "What Matiba went thru' under former president Moi regime was so inhuman and again thinking of his son wanting to lead this country at some point, eh. Raises so many questions. Truth of the matter, Moi messed the Late Matiba and his family."
"I think Moi's son did well to condole the Matibas, but his father has a case to answer in heaven when that day comes," another commented.
During the visit, the veteran politician's son Raymond Matiba, spoke on behalf of the family conveying thanks to the state for honouring their father.
"Ours as a family is just to record our thanks to His Excellency the President for having instructed his government to undertake all the arrangements that have been made thus far for the sendoff of our father.

"We would like to invite as many Kenyans as possible to come to the two venues to give him a sending befitting of a son of Kenya," he urged.
The family has also announced that they will honour the Late Matiba's wish to be cremated upon his death.
