Mike Sonko Calls on DCI After Ksh6 Million Transferred to General Suppliers Limited

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko was on Tuesday sent out a distress call to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over the transfer of Ksh6 Million from county government accounts.

The governor had earlier acquired a court injunction barring the transfer of the money to a printing company, General Suppliers Limited.

The county had been represented by Borabu MP Benson Momanyi who the governor accused of colluding with internal lawyers at City Hall to ensure the funds were transferred.

Governor Sonko urged the DCI to move with speed and investigate the firm, the MP over the transfer of the funds.

MP Momanyi led the suit against Sonko's government claiming that the county administration had failed to honour a payment agreement.

Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti had granted the county government the injunction order after they proved that the county did not sanction in contracting the services of the printing firm.

"The consent issued on April 16, 2018, is hereby set aside pending an inter-parties hearing of this application," the magistrate ordered.

The MP strongly refuted the governor's claims in the case dismissing them as politically instigated.

He added that there was no reason for him to collude with private entities to defraud the county government.

Despite the order issued on April 16, the county lawyer went ahead to sign a consent on behalf of the county administration that the firm would be paid a sum of Ksh6,234,829.65.

Acting Chief Finance Officer Ekaya Alumasi informed the governor of the transfer of funds soon after the concerned bank sent a notification on the release of funds.

Governor Sonko has since suspended three officials at the county administration over the matter.
