Ezra Chiloba's Dismisses Reported Plan to Resign From IEBC

Suspended IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba on Tuesday dismissed reports claiming that he will not be returning to the electoral agency after his leave is over.

In an interview with Kenyans.co.ke, Chiloba maintained that he was not planning to throw in the towel and resign from the commission.

"That is not true. I am even shocked because I have no plans of resigning from the commission," the IEBC CEO stated.

The embattled CEO further explained that he was quoted out of context by the reports which claimed he was going to resign and focus primarily on agribusiness.

Chiloba, however, told Kenyans.co.ke that while on leave, he was working on his farm and preparing for his court case against the suspension by IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

He remarked: "I am very busy. I'm preparing for my court case against the IEBC and I'm also farming. When life gives you lemons you make lemonade."

Chebukati suspended him because of procurement issues, a decision that left the electoral body sharply divided.

IEBC commissioners who resigned cited lack of faith in Chebukati, with Paul Kurgat terming as “unprocedural” the suspension of Chiloba.

Chiloba moved to court to block his forced leave and asked the courts to grant him temporary orders to allow him to resume work.

He argued that the decision was arrived at in the presence of the only three commissioners adding that they contravened the provisions governing the conduct of the business at the electoral agency.
