Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi Arrested, Detained at Muthaiga Police Station

Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi was on Wednesday arrested and taken to the Muthaiga Police Station following an offensive post on Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

The blogger was detained at the police station with authorities close to the county government revealing that it was unlikely that he would be let out before facing charges in court.

Police sources also revealed that the blogger had been denied bail in the matter where the governor alleges he was abused by the blogger on a Facebook post.

The sources conveyed that several people had been summoned to record statements against the blogger at the police station.

According to the governor's handlers, Nyakundi is accused of having insulted the county boss by calling him "mbwa", Swahili for "dog".

On his Twitter handle, the blogger posted a series of tweets claiming that Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Chairman Francis Ole Kaparo for allegedly joining governor Sonko in accusing him.

"I can confirm I am at Muthaiga police station. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) brought four cases against me. Despite the cases being civil, they have been criminalized. Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko reported to DCI that I Made social media posts that hurt him and demeaned his respectable office.

He further alleged that Ole Kaparo's NCIC team had lodged a complaint against him for attacking leaders and allegedly spreading hate speech against the Kikuyu tribe.

"Laws criminalizing blogging we declared unconstitutional and what is happening to me is totally unacceptable. I condemn it with all my strength.

"People have now been barred from visiting me at Muthaiga police station. Have a Good Evening from Muthaiga police station. They have refused to say the court that I will be availed in. They can jail me but will never jail my spirit!" the blogger posted.
