Raila Odinga Tells Off Boni Khalwale Over Handshake

NASA leader Raila Odinga made his keynote address during the Fifth Devolution Conference in Kakamega on Wednesday.

On his arrival, he was welcomed by jubilant supporters who thronged the streets of the town which also serves as the county headquarters.

Raila, who was in the company of the county boss Wycliffe Oparanya, took the opportunity to reprimand former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Raila states: "Sasa Khalwale anasema ooh mbona Raila alienda peke yake (Now Khalwale is questioning why I went alone for the handshake).

"Mimi naambia yeye, wewe kijana baba yako alitoka alfajiri kaa wewe unalala, ameenda kuwinda, na amerudi na nyama (I am telling him, son, your father went on a hunting mission before dawn and he has brought you back the proceeds of the hunt).

"Lakini wewe unamuuliza kwa nini hukuniambia unaenda kuwinda badala ya kumuuliza baba umeleta nini (But he is complaining that I did not tell him that I'd go for the handshake instead of asking what I brought back after the handshake)," he adds.

"Uhuru amekubali na Raila amekubali sasa wewe ni nani unapinga (President Uhuru Kenyatta and I have come to a consensus, who are you to oppose the deal)?" Raila posed as the crowd applauded.

Thanking the county residents over their unwavering support over the years, the ODM leader revealed that he had settled for the handshake half-heartedly to ensure that his supporters did not miss out the development agenda over the next five years.

The NASA principal went on to remind the supporters that he would not turn back on his push for electoral reforms.

"Tusiposuluhisha 2017 hakuna 2022 sasawa? Mpaka turekebishe mambo mapema wakati huu na Uhuru amekubali (If we don't resolve the 2017 issues, we will not hold the 2022 elections. We must make these reforms early enough and Uhuru has agreed to the proposal)," he concluded.
