Facebook Launches New Dating Feature

Facebook has launched a new dating feature that may see you land a spouse and possibly establish a relationship that will last a lifetime.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by Facebook Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Zuckerberg during the Annual Developers Conference.

"This is going to be for building real, long-term relationships, not just hookups," Zuckerberg indicated which saw those attending burst in laughter.

Speaking in San Jose, California, the CEO emphasized that the focus of the new feature will be on helping people to find long-term partners.

Besides, he emphasized that the Social media giant's new feature will adhere to strict privacy protection in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica expose.

He further expressed optimism of the feature's viability given that one in three marriages in the United States starts online.

Zuckerberg also noted that some 200 million Facebook users identify as being single with the category forming the bulk of the new feature's target audience.

The dating feature will allow users to create a separate "dating" profile which will not be visible to their network of friends neither will it appear in News Feeds.

Besides, potential matches will be recommended based on dating preferences, points in common and mutual acquaintances in the opt-in feature.

Zuckerberg, however, revealed that the potential matches will not be drawn from any of the user's existing friends in a bid to create new long-term relationships.
