Details of Ksh10 Million Bursary Gladys Wanga Received From Government

Homa Bay Woman Representative, Gladys Wanga received Ksh10 million from the National Government Affirmative Action.

Speaking at the distribution of cheques, the lawmaker affirmed that the funds channelled through her office were bursary for 1,400 students in her county.

Wanga stated that out of those who received the money, 1,200 are secondary school students, while 200 students will join vocational training centres adding that the 200 students got full scholarships.

The Homa Bay legislator affirmed that the money was fairly distributed throughout the county.

“We selected 18 beneficiaries in each of the 40 wards for the secondary school programme and three to five beneficiaries for the vocational training programme,” Wanga stated.

Students in the vocational training programme will pursue courses in welding, masonry, tailoring, motorcycle repair, solar panel installation and textile making.

Wanga further revealed that her office had partnered with the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) to enable students to acquire skills.

The Homa Bay Woman Representative stated: “We want to uplift the economy of our people. The 200 students will start their courses on May 8.”

In January, over 500 students from needy backgrounds in Nairobi County received bursaries from the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF).

The bursaries were issued by the County's Woman Representative Esther Passaris at in a bid to help the underprivileged students in the city to access education.
