KANU Explains Why DP Ruto Failed to Meet With Mzee Moi

Kenya African National Union (KANU) Secretary General Nick Salat on Friday explained why Deputy President William Ruto failed to meet with former President Daniel arap Moi on Thursday.

Speaking to the journalists, Salat divulged that DP Ruto is to be blamed for the failed plan to Mzee Moi

Salat declared: "Mr Moi’s life was anchored in the constitution with an elaborate and well-defined structure that clearly defines how meetings are held and conducted.

"Those who want to meet Mr Moi must ensure protocol is observed. People meet the retired President every day because there is nothing private about his life," added Salat.

He further disclosed that the Deputy President's office should have made appropriate planning on getting an appointment with Moi.

The Party's Secretary General also noted: "The DP arrived at the time Mzee was being attended to by his doctors and for us, that was of paramount importance."

Speaking to the Nation, Salat asserted: "This matter involves two constitutional offices — that of the retired president and that of the deputy president. It is upon the two offices to explain how the hitch happened."

However, Salat, who often speaks on behalf of Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, dismissed politicians who are blaming the legislator for the failed visit.

DP Ruto visited the retired President at his Kabarak home on Thursday but failed to meet him because according to Mr Moi's office, the visit coincided with the doctors' session with the 94-year old politician.

Tiaty MP William Kamket declared: "I was surprised to hear the DP had sneaked into Kabarak incognito in total breach of protocol."

He also urged the DP to ensure that he does proper prior planning before making any appearances at the "old man's house."
