Moses Wetangula Defends DP William Ruto on Mzee Moi's Failed Visit

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula has sided with Deputy President William Ruto in regards to his botched visit to former President Mzee Moi's home.

The former Senate Minority leader advised Baringo Senator Gideon Moi to stop barring leaders from visiting the retired president.

"I want to advise Gideon Moi, in an African society when an old man is unwell or old and feeling tired, their spirits are always rejuvenated when they are visited. Don't prevent Mzee from visits from people who would like to wish him well.

"Nobody wants to visit him with ulterior motives, it is all in good faith. I'm not sure Mzee Moi was aware that DP Ruto was denied to see him," he stated.

Wetangula gave the example of his ailing mother who is 87: "She is visited by 30-40 people daily and she feels happy when people come to see her. I don't think Moi is different from that."

He further commented on the proposed referendum adding that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was not in a position to conduct the exercise due to its lack of commissioners.

"IEBC cannot conduct the referendum vote as proposed by a section of leaders in the country, the body's remaining two commissioners and their chairman cannot carry out such business after four of their counterparts resigned," he explained.

He advised that the commission be reconstituted before any calls to change the constitution are made.

Earlier on Saturday, Gideon Moi urged politicians to keep his father's name away from insults when talking about 2022 politics.

"But I beg of you fellow leaders, keep my father away from insults and dirty politics. I am ready myself to stand for all abusive utterances," Moi affirmed during the funeral service of the late Baringo South MP Grace Kipchoim.
