Ezra Chiloba Renews Attack on IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati

Suspended Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chief Executive Ezra Chiloba has renewed an onslaught on Chairperson Wafula Chebukati in new court documents.

Chiloba accused Chebukati of high-handedness and acting as if he is above the law.

In an affidavit in support of the suit challenging his suspension, Chiloba accused Chebukati of hiding behind the commission to deflect criticism.

He further claimed that alongside the 2 remaining commissioners Abdi Guliye and Boya Molu, Chebukati was committing illegallities and using the cover of the commission to handle lawsuits.

Chiloba also argued that Chebukati had no right to transact any business on behalf of the commission following the resignation of 3 commissioners; Margaret Mwachanya, Paul Kurgat and Connie Maina who was the Vice-Chair.

“Chebukati has no authority to swear any affidavit on behalf of the IEBC, as currently constituted. His response to my illegal suspension on behalf on the commission is therefore inaccurate and incompetent,” he stated.

While blaming Chebukati for his suspension, Chiloba asserted that the manner in which Chebukati introduced a report on the audit that informed the decision to send him home 'was suspicious'.

On his part, Chebukati claimed that Chiloba had illegally obtained material used to support his case.

He demanded that 8 documents be expunged from official court records.

Chebukati maintained that Chiloba used his position to access the information that would likely bring the commission into disrepute.
