Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore Announces His Return as Company Records Ksh55 Billion Net Income

Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore on Wednesday announced that he would be back in Nairobi soon.

Speaking during the company's Full Year investor briefing as the telecommunication giant announced a rise in net income from Ksh48.44 billion to Ksh55.29 billion, Collymore stated that he is heading to the last phase of treatment and is responding well.

"As you can see I am looking pretty robust. I am heading to the last phase of treatment and expect to be back to Nairobi as soon as the doctors feel that my immune system is sufficiently robust to withstand the infection risks that are usually associated with air travel.

“In the meantime thank you all for the messages of good. I look forward to being back in action in Nairobi," he divulged.

Commenting on the impressive income growth, the CEO stated that the secret was putting customers first and delivering relevant products.

"To achieve these results, we sharpened our focus on putting our customers first, delivering relevant products and services and organisational effectiveness.

"[This] strategy was exceptionally executed considering the challenging business climate last year," he added.

M-Pesa revenue grew by 14.2 percent while mobile data revenue rose by 24 percent.

The number of M-Pesa customers had also grown by 8.0 percent as compared to the previous year.

The sustained demand for data remains a key growth driver for the company, with mobile data revenue increasing by 24 percent to Sh36.36 billion.

Sateesh Kamath, Safaricom's Finance Director further stated that in the next financial year, the company would spend between Ksh35 billion and Ksh38 billion in infrastructure expansion.

“In FY 2019 we look to drive long-term shareholder value by deploying next-generation network services, leveraging data analytics and segmentation, guided by our purpose of transforming lives to turn innovative ideas into realities,” noted Kamath.
