EALA MP Simon Mbugua Charged With Robbery With Violence

East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) lawmaker Simon Mbugua was on Wednesday charged with robbery with violence alongside two other men; Anthony Otieno Ombok alias Jamal and Benjamin Odhiambo Onyango also known as Odhis.

The trio is accused of robbing former National Central Business District Association (NCBDA) Chairperson Timothy Muriuki of Sh100,000 at the Boulevard Hotel.

“On the 30th day of April 2018 at 11am at Hotel Boulevard in Nairobi city within Nairobi County, jointly with others not before court, robbed Timothy Muceru Muriuki of Sh100,000 and immediately after the time of such robbery injured the said Timothy Muceru Muriuki,” the charge sheet stated.

Mbugua was arrested on Tuesday at Sagret Hotel in connection with the attack that sparked public outrage after videos surfaced on social media.

Muriuki was ambushed as he prepared to address a press conference, with his attackers claiming that he was out to malign Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's name.

They dragged him by the collar stopping him from reading his statement before roughing him up and threatening to throw him in the swimming pool.

He was later encircled by a group of motorcycle riders who continued with the attacks before he (Muriuki) eventually fled to the nearby Norfolk Hotel.

Police are still looking for three more people captured attacking Muriuki; Brian Owino alias Orange, Michael Mbanya, and Suleiman Hussein alias Rescue.
