Several Dead After Patel Dam in Subukia Bursts Its Banks

38 people have been confirmed dead after Patel Dam in Subukia, Nakuru County burst its banks on Wednesday night.

The Red Cross revealed that tens were missing but 39 people had been rescued.

Those who were rescued were rushed to Bahati Sub-County and Nakuru Level 5 Hospitals.

The extremely heavy rains began at around 9 pm affecting at least 500 families.

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui issued a press statement promising support for the affected residents.

"We assure residents that we will do our best to take affected families to safety and help them get medical attention," he wrote.

The Governor further asked area residents to be careful as the heavy rains were expected to continue.

Kabazi MCA Peter Mbae appealed for support as he sought to explain how dire the situation was.

"Some people have serious injuries so they need urgent medical attention.

"Ambulances are needed ... thousands are out in the cold. The situation is dire," he stated in a WhatsApp group.
