Starehe Boys Centre has fired its embattled Director Charles Masheti barely six months after he was appointed to the position.
A caretaker committee has been appointed to oversee the school's operations for the next two years while KPMG East Africa Chief Executive Josphat Mwaura will take over as Director in an acting capacity.
The prestigious institution that has regressed in recent years was in the headlines over allegations of mismanagement, skewed procurement processes, a workers' strike and alleged wrangling within the management.
Donor funding which the school is dependent on has also diminished significantly since the death of its founder Dr George Griffin.
The school's poor academic performance in comparison to years gone by is also said to have played a part in Masheti's axing.

In a letter to stakeholders, the school's Management Committee (MC) Chairman Jimmy Mugerwa disclosed that Masheti's contract was terminated on April 25.
“I am writing to update you on a decision taken by the Managing Committee of Starehe Boys Centre and the school to terminate the employment of Director Charles Masheti with effect from April 25, 2018,” he wrote.
Furthermore, it was disclosed that the Committee took charge of Starehe on April 10 as Masheti battled accusations of being involved in flawed procurement processes.
Mugerwa explained that the move was meant to give time to the Director to respond to claims of irregular procurement and payments between January 2016 and February 2018.
The school has also formulated a transformation plan aimed at taking the institution back to its glory days.
