Miguna Miguna Responds to Nomination as Nairobi Deputy Governor

Controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna finally responded to his nomination as Nairobi Deputy Governor on Wednesday night by the county boss Mike Sonko.

In a message to the media on Thursday, Miguna maintained that he was not aware of the nomination and he had not spoken to governor Sonko since the gubernatorial debate in 2017, despite his lawyer Cliff Ombetta having stated he was in possession of Miguna's nomination letter.

"Good afternoon I have no idea what nearly everyone seems to be talking about. It's a malicious distraction. That's all I'm saying" Miguna stated.

Through his official Twitter account, Miguna wrote: "The fundamental principle is that no battle, combat, or skirmish is to be fought unless it will be won." - Che Guevara. Patriots, #NRMKe comrades and friends of Kenya: Just like on January 30th, 2018, I and we are focused like a laser beam. No distractions. No sideshows. Viva!"

Majority Leader Aden Duale had asked Governor Sonko to drop Miguna as the Deputy Governor nominee.

In his statement, the Garissa Town MP maintained that President Uhuru Kenyatta should be consulted on who should become the capital's DG.

Duale stated: "Miguna's name should be dropped and Uhuru consulted on who the Jubilee choice for DG is. Miguna is not a member of the party thus he is not qualified under the Political Parties Act and the timelines given in it."

Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi maintained that Miguna Miguna must settle his citizenship row before being vetted for the position of Deputy Governor of Nairobi.

She pointed out that this may take more than a month depending on when the matter will be resolved observing that this is in line with one of the requirements for those wishing to take up political posts in the country.

“It can take us three, four months. It means Nairobi residents will not have a deputy governor until September, November," Elachi stated.

"First of all we have to clear with that side; see Miguna enter Kenya and then now we will know we have a nominee and start thinking how to proceed to ensure we get him through the right process,” she added.
