Jubilee Statement on Appointment of Miguna Miguna as Nairobi Deputy Governor

Jubilee leaders, led by the House Majority Leader Aden Duale now want Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to withdraw the appointment of controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna as his Deputy.

Speaking to Kenyyans.co.ke, Duale revealed that Jubilee had instructed Sonko to consider withdrawing the nomination.

"We have told him that he should consult the party leader (President Uhuru) before forwading any appointee to the County Assembly for vetting," Duale stated.

He further indicated that Sonko was wrong in nominating Miguna given that he is not a Jubilee Party member as should be the case.

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja was among the first Jubilee leaders to oppose Miguna's nomination.

"Miguna will not become the Deputy Governor of Nairobi. Take that to the bank," he had stated.

Uhuru’s lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi equally voiced his dissatisfaction with the appointment of Miguna.

The Senior Counsel tweeted: "Imagine living in Nairobi with a population of 5 million Kenyans and you have Sonko as Governor and Miguna as Deputy Governor.

"Some jokes are not just in bad taste but are cruel too," Ahmednasir quipped.

However, defending the nomination, Sonko indicated: "The nominee meets all the requirements provided for in the Constitution, the Leadership, and Integrity Act, the Elections Act, and County Government Act."

Responding to the appointment on Thursday, Miguna, who postponed his return to the country, indicated that he was equally surprised by the nomination.
