GEMA Leaders Reveal How Raila Odinga Was Duped

Leaders from Mt Kenya region associated to the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru Association (Gema) revealed that opposition leader Raila Odinga was duped into meeting a group that was not them.

On Thursday, Gema denounced the meeting between the former Prime Minister and another a group they termed as its rival.

Officials allied to Gema from 17 constituencies met in Nairobi where they dismissed a meeting adding that Raila was misled by imposters.

“Gema is a welfare association and is not a business entity. The people that went to see Raila Odinga are not Gema representatives in Nairobi. They are cons. There is nothing like Gema Business Community,” the officials stated.

Led by Kimani Rugendo, the chair of Gema in Nairobi County the officials from other constituencies maintained that the deal did not reflect the position of the association.

Rugendo urged the opposition leader to verify details of individuals who alleged to be leaders of welfare groups adding he risked associating himself with persons with tainted reputations.

Raila held a meeting with a group claiming to be leaders of Gema business community in Nairobi last Friday, where they agreed to work together to spread a message of reconciliation across the county and country at large.

The former Prime Minister did not address the press after but he directed the “Gema” officials and legislator Tom Kajwang and his Nyando counterpart Jared Okello to speak.

Winfred Kamau the business community’s chairman stated their meeting with Raila marked the end of the differences they had with him.

Notably, Kajwang rubbished allegations that the consultation was a preparation for a referendum and 2022 succession politics.
