Ahmednasir Abdullahi Calls for Governor Mike Sonko to Be Jailed

Lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has called for Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to be jailed, stating that a planned impeachment was the wrong move.

With Sonko reportedly having escaped from Shimo la Tewa prison in 1998, Ahmednasir asserted that Sonko should be jailed so that he can serve the remainder of his sentence.

"It is WRONG to impeach Hon Gov Sonko. It is RIGHT to send him back to prison so that he serves the reminder of his jail term," he wrote.

In the past, Sonko has explained that he escaped from prison to attend his mother's burial. He was re-arrested in 1999, taken to Kamiti Maximum Security Prison and released in 2000.

Ahmednasir was responding to an article in which Jubilee Vice-Chair David Murathe vowed that they would impeach Sonko following his nomination of Miguna Miguna as Deputy Governor.

Ahmednasir is a staunch critic of Sonko and they have clashed on several occasions.

On Thursday, the lawyer tweeted: "Imagine living in Nairobi with a population of 5 million Kenyans and you have Sonko as Governor and Miguna as Deputy Governor...some jokes are not just in bad taste but are cruel too."

Sonko has previously referred to Ahmednasir as a corrupt conman paid to fight him.

Murathe maintained that the impeachment process would go on in spite of Sonko's 'tantrums', confirming speculation that the Governor had fallen out with the party's top brass.

He claimed that Miguna's nomination was a desperate move by Sonko to deflect attention away from his non-performance.

Sonko stood by his pick for the DG's post, stating that he chose him to fight the corruption cartels at City Hall.
