Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) in Nairobi have distanced themselves from a plan revealed by Jubilee Party Vice-Chairman David Murathe to impeach Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Addressing journalists on Friday, Majority Leader Abdi Guyo and Majority Chief Whip Mwaura Chege dismissed Murathe as they maintained that President Uhuru Kenyatta was the party's spokesperson.
"The spokesman of our party is President Uhuru Kenyatta. He is the only person allowed to speak on behalf of the party. Any other person is a busybody," Guyo stated.
Chege, on the other hand, clarified that they had no intention of impeaching Sonko.
"We have no intention, no motivation and no plan whatsoever to impeach the Governor," he declared.

Murathe had claimed that Sonko's surprise nomination of Miguna Miguna as Deputy Governor was a ploy to deflect attention from his poor performance.
He vowed that the Governor's 'tantrums' would not derail the impeachment process.
“Sonko is forestalling his impeachment which has nothing to do with the DG’s position but his administration’s dismal performance. He is covering up his mistakes by trying to divert attention. His nomination of Miguna is of no significance.
“The impeachment will proceed and it has to do with failures to deliver services to the people as was pledged by the party during campaigns. He can throw tantrums but they will have no consequence. We want action and not talking lies,” he stated.
Sonko maintained that he chose self-styled National Resistance Movement (NRM) General Miguna Miguna to fight cartels at City Hall.
He affirmed that if Miguna was not approved, he would submit another name to the County Assembly.
