Senator Mutula Kilonzo's Advice to Kipchumba Murkomen on Sonko's Impeachment

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr has advised Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen on how to support Governor Mike Sonko in the face of the rumoured impeachment plan.

Murkomen had taken to Twitter indicating that: "Governor Sonko needs our support and partnership, not wholesale condemnation and blame.

"As the Senate, we will protect and defend counties and county governments all times," Murkomen promised.

Mutula Jr, however, reminded Murkomen that he needed to use his position as the Senate Majority Leader to reign over confrontations and conflicts caused by party members.

"Murkomen, use your good office to stand down the (Jubilee) Party honchos who are ill bent on rocking the boat," Mutula Jr advised Murkomen.

Governor Sonko has in the past decried alleged meddling of the county affairs by some senior ranking officials in the government.

Jubilee Party vice-chairman David Murathe had issued a statement that hinted at the impeachment of Governor Sonko.

This followed the nomination of controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna as deputy governor; a move that Leader of Majority in the National Assembly Aden Bare Duale equally opposed.

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja had however clarified that the opposition to Sonko's appointment should not be misinterpreted as a move to remove him from office.

"Let no one take advantage of our misgivings on his choice of Deputy Governor. That is a different matter," Sakaja had stated.
