Trouble Brews Between Ford Kenya and ANC

The planned merger between Ford Kenya and the Amani National Congress (ANC) is reported to be in shambles even before it happens.

Reports by the Sunday Nation indicated that that none of the two parties had fully discussed the matter despite assurances by former Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale.

Both parties have revealed that in spite of protracted assurances on the merger, there is suspicion and mistrust between aides of Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula.

Ego trips on who leads the new outfit and with it, the flagbearer in the 2022 Presidential election and the historical political differences between the Bukusu and Maragoli have been reported as a stumbling block in the merger.

Mudavadi and Senator Wetangula established a joint technical committee, co-chaired by Dr Khalwale and ANC’s Barrack Muluka to actualise the merger dream.

Notably, the team submitted its report to the two leaders and the final decision is expected to be taken by the top party organs of the two leaders.

The team delved into the performance of the two parties in the past two general elections and developed different scenarios that detailed the advantages to be accrued should the merger be achieved.

According to the plan, the report of the technical committee should have been discussed and adopted during the meetings of the top organs of the party held last week.

Mudavadi planned for a meeting in Kisumu which was snubbed by all the elected leaders of his party, except one MP, Alfred Agoi.

Ford Kenya's meeting was planned to be held in Nakuru, where Khalwale is reported to have found himself isolated when he tried to force through the agenda on the dissolution of the party.

During the ANC meeting, delegates who attended warned Mudavadi to deal with Wetangula cautiously and even though the report was submitted to the meeting, it was not discussed.
