Jonathan Mueke Urges Mike Sonko to Fight Cartels

Former Nairobi Deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke on Sunday urged Governor Mike Sonko to exercise the powers of his office to fight cartels in the city.

Speaking during a panel discussion on KTN, Mueke stated that the governor should stop blaming the cartels for the 'poor performance' of his administration.

"There are different types of cartels that come up in different ways. There are people who sabotage operations, the work of the leader is to make sure that you take care of those cartels and not sit back and blame them.

"The constitution and the people of Nairobi gave Governor Sonko all the power and the full mandate to lead the city and fight cartels.

"He should stop blaming the cartels, fight them and make sure they are eliminated so as to provide service to the mwananchi," he explained.

The former deputy governor further noted that Sonko should stop blaming his successor, Evans Kidero for the ills of the city as he (Sonko) was in charge now.

"It's its been eight months since he took office. You can't say that the uncollected garbage in estates and the potholes on Tom Mboya streets are Kidero's.

"If there is any mess left, he should have had a plan and began fixing the mess. Sonko is fingerpointing, he needs to sit down and come up with a plan with his government to address these issues. Blaming on Kidero will not work," Mueke added.

Earlier on Wednesday, Sonko nominated Miguna Miguna as his deputy governor stating that the NRM general would assist him in fighting cartels in the city.
