Al Shabaab Facilitator Francis Macharia Charged for Planning to Bomb Milimani Law Courts

Details have emerged divulging how Al Shabaab suspects were planning to carry out a terror attack at the Milimani Law Courts.

According to the prosecution, the suspect, Francis Macharia, together with his accomplices had embedded explosives in a motor vehicle Registration No.KBM 200D.

This would then make the same vehicle to be an improvised explosive device which would have been used in the foiled attack.

Mr Macharia was on Tuesday charged in a Nairobi court with conspiring to carry out a terrorist act in the country.

The prosecution also charged him on the count that together with others, they supported Al Shabaab acts before the court.

Additionally, the court noted that the accused forged an official document, the Kenya national Identification Card purporting that it was validly issued by the Registar of Persons.

Macharia later confessed to the court that he had forged the Kenyan ID card bearing the name of one Jirma Huka Galgalo ( now deceased) who was a member of the gang.

However, the suspect, who had a Ksh1 Million bounty prior to his arrest, denied the charges before Milimani Senior Resident Magistrate Hellen Onkwani.

The Magistrate ordered for Macharia to remain in remand custody until Thursday, for him to apply for bail before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, who is handling a similar case.

He was arrested on Sunday evening in Kayole where he was believed to have been hiding and handed over to the anti-terrorism police unit.

His arrest comes barely two days after police placed the bounty on his head.
