National Youth Council (NYC) File Petition to Impeach Internal PS Karanja Kibicho

A rift has emerged among the leadership of the National Youth Council (NYC) over a petition that was filed in Parliament to investigate the conduct of Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho.

The four-page petition was submitted to the Clerk of the National Assembly and signed by the NYC  national chair Edward Githaiga and secretary general Juliana Olayo.

According to the youth, Kibicho is not fit to hold public office and should be impeached following his constant fights with the Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

The Githaiga team cited four grounds to push Kibicho out of office including serious violation of the Constitution, serious violation of the law, gross misconduct in the performance of functions, and incompetence.

"It has been reported in the mainstream media that Kibicho has by act and omission been actively abusing the office of the Principal Secretary in an effort to undermine the work of various leaders, including Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko," the petition reads in part.

However, in a press conference held on Saturday morning at their office, NYC CEO Raymond Ouma noted that his counsel was not in support of any political divide as reported in the media.

He insisted that their lobbies were for the interest and benefits of youths in Kenya.

"Those youths were masqueraders, we totally dissociate with them, we as an agency are championing the interests of youths and are not at all involved and are not interested in the personalities," Ouma noted.

Ouma asserted that they will remain focused on the issues of youth and regretted the corruption scandal at National Youth Service (NYS) which was meant to empower the young people.

Additionally, Ouma exclaimed that they backed President Uhuru Kenyatta's calls for zero tolerance on corruption and insisted that they would continue to offer him the necessary support to ensure that issues affecting young people were catered for.
