Education CS Amina Mohammed Warns Bar Owners Selling Drugs to Students

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed has issued a warning to businesses operating in school compounds including canteens which expose children to drugs.

Speaking during Kiambu High school prize giving day on Saturday, CS Amina put on notice bar owners and other drug peddlers against corrupting school children.

“No drugs should be found or traded anywhere near or within learning institutions. The government is going to take tough action against people who expose children to stuff that was harmful to their health and well being,” she affirmed.

The Education CS urged counties to make it illegal to sell alcoholic drinks to anyone under the age of 18 years.

“I want to thank Kiambu County for banning the sale of illegal alcoholic drinks in the County. The law will help protect defenceless school going children, and I am happy the law is intended for both adults and the protection of children,” she added.

She further stated that by amending and implementing the alcohol and drinks control acts in the counties, authorities would be better positioned to crack down on drug lords preying on children near schools.

Her remarks come after recent cases of indiscipline among high school students with many accused of burning down dormitories.

Earlier in May, 28 students from Isiolo Boys High School were arrested after a fight broke out in the school after police were deployed to calm the situation.

The school's management closed the institution when part of a dormitory was burnt down in the chaos.

Similarly, a dormitory at Lamu Boys Secondary School was razed down.
