Wiper to Move to New Office Ahead of Kalonzo's 2022 Presidential Bid

Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM-K) party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is set to launch a new office for the party in Nairobi as part of a rebranding plan ahead of the 2022 Presidential election.

The party will be moving from its current headquarters in Lavington to a larger space along the Southern Bypass.

Finishing touches are being put on the three-storey building that has already been painted in party colours.

The party had previously announced a plan to rebrand and change its name to the 'One Kenya Movement' in a bid to establish itself as a national outfit.

Wiper Executive Director Jared Siso disclosed that the secretariat would shift operations to the new location next week.

He further revealed that a Delegates' Conference would be held to chart the way forward on the planned name change and what it will entail.

“We’ve been doing our things quietly and by start of next month, we hope to have settled at the new place and start the serious work of reaching out to all Kenyans,” he stated.

Siso explained that the new outfit would seek to form alliances with other leaders and parties as Kalonzo plots a Presidential bid in the next polls.

Kalonzo has been under pressure from Ukambani leaders such as Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana to position himself as his own man following National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga's March 9 handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“We appreciate that the first handshake did change Kenya’s political environment. It was an act of courage and patriotism. But in my humble view, Kalonzo, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula must define their own future politics without reference to the flagship business of 2017. That period is now closed,” he wrote.
