Francis Atwoli Appointed to International Labour Organization

COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has been elected as a member of the International Labour Organization (ILO) at a conference held in Switzerland.

Atwoli’s name was forwarded by the president of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) Africa region, Mody Guiro and supported by 5000 in attendance at the conference held in Geneva, Switzerland.

Atwoli expressed his sentiments noting that he was humbled by the trust that his African colleagues had vested on him by appointing him to the post.

He promised to remain true to the calling of the working conditions of both men and women globally and vowed to relentlessly seek for social justice.

He will now represent the continent in the commission and the ILO secretariat.

In a statement issued by COTU, the labour movement congratulated Atwoli for the selection and all those who voted him in unanimously.

“Atwoli will now be charged with articulating and pushing the agenda of the African workers and making sure that all the decisions made on different agendas at the conference are agreeable and favorable to the workforce in the continent,” the statement stated.

During the 107th annual conference, Atwoli was leading 30 trade union leaders’ delegation from the country.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is a united nations agency dealing with international labour standards, social protection, and work opportunities for all.

Formed in 1919, ILO has a membership of 186 states.
