Kenyans React to NYS Suspects Arrested on Monday

Monday morning saw a bevy of activity at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters in Kiambu where 17 suspects were arrested with more expected to be nabbed.

National Youth Service (NYS) Director General Richard Ndubai and 16 others were arrested in connection with the ongoing investigations in the Ksh9 Billion scandal.

At the same time, Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Lillian Mbogo-Omollo presented herself at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Headquarters.

As the dramatic arrests unfolded, Kenyans online using the hashtag #NameTheRealNYSThieves demanded the unmasking of the real NYS suspects, believing that those presented were mere scapegoats.

"Let's get the whole report, there should be accountability!" one user demanded.

Another stated: "Yes name them.. or we start marching with banners saying no paying tax until money is recovered."

"Have all the monies they stole recovered plus hefty fines, make it very painful so others can learn from the set example," he added.

Others called on the President to take responsibility for the scandals and deal with the suspects to prevent further pilferage of funds.

"It's high time the president drop the "buddies" tag and crack the whip. Otherwise, he will have a deplorable legacy," one user suggested.

"Conversations that strikes a mind-blowing level of honesty and a ridiculous level of observational detail are what we need to get to the bottom of all this. Not tribunals and commissions," a netizen noted.

Others called for auditing of all Ministries to unearth more scams that facilitated the stealing of taxpayers money.
