Lugari MP Ayub Savula has proposed a change of the law to make involvement in mega-corruption punishable by death.
Addressing the recent scandals at the National Youth Service (NYS) and the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB), Savula decried the negative impact of corruption on society and equated those who perpetuate the vice to murderers.
He noted that there was a need to strengthen the law as he considered the provisions of the penal code too lenient on those accused of engaging in graft.
Savula further explained his proposal that Chapter 4 of the Constitution on the Bill of Rights be amended to allow for public execution of those found guilty of stealing more than Ksh1 Billion.
"Someone who steals Sh1 billion is equivalent to a murderer. How many people would die in hospitals for lack of medicine as a result of the theft?" he posed.

He further suggested that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) be given prosecutorial powers.
Speaking at a memorial service for the late Housing Minister Soita Shitanda, Savula lamented that petty thieves were in jail while the so-called 'big thieves' sat comfortably in their homes.
He reiterated the need to strengthen institutions meant to fight corruption as he asserted that blaming President Uhuru Kenyatta was pointless.
"Blaming President Uhuru Kenyatta will not solve the problem because it is the police, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the courts that are charged with dealing with corruption. They cannot succeed while working under weak systems," he affirmed.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro had also written to Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi last week seeking to have corruption classified as a capital offence in the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
