3 Dead, 8 Seriously Injured In Road Accident

Three people have died and eight others seriously injured after the bus they were travelling in was involved in an accident at Nithi Bridge, Tharaka Nithi County.

The bus belonging to Sunbird company is said to have lost control and plunged into a river on its way from Meru to Nairobi, Tuesday evening.

According to a report on Citizen News the driver hit a motorcyclist and lost control, causing the bus to roll and plunge into the river.

In a report on The Standard eye witnesses say the bus lost control while descending a steep slope, rolled several times before landing on the river embankment.

St Johns Ambulance director of communications Fred Majiwa confirming the incident has said two women and a man perished in the accident, The Star reports.

The paper further notes that the bus could have been carrying more than 40 passengers.

Rescue operations are still underway as the injured are being rushed to Chuka General Hospital and Chogoria PCEA Hospitals.
