3 Jubilee Party Officials in Murang'a and Kirinyaga Sacked Over Election Chaos

The Jubilee Party led by President Uhuru Kenyatta has sacked three officials over the ugly chaos witnessed on Friday in Murang’a and Kirinyaga Counties.

The sacked officials were Simon Kamau and Samuel Macharia from Murang’a County, and Eric Muriithi Muchina from Kirinyaga.

Jubilee Head of Secretariat Raphael Tuju on Sunday indicated that the move was aimed at taming violence that has been rocking the choice of county election board officials.

“It is most illogical that we should witness all the aggression during this simple exercise in which all we wished to involve our stakeholders in the selection of county election boards,” Mr Tuju.

In Kirinyaga, the chaos erupted after supporters of incumbent Governor Joseph Ndathi clashed with those backing former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru, who is eyeing the governor's position.

The warring groups descended on each other with chairs as they tore apart election material.

Security officers led by area OCPD were deployed to calm the situation as organisers of the event tried to regroup to proceed with the elections.

In Murang’a, supporters of Governor Mr Mwangi Wa Iria clashed with those of his rival Kigumo MP Mr Jamleck Kamau.

During the incident, police were forced to lob teargas in a bid to disperse the feuding groups.

On Thursday, a similar fracas was witnessed at the Bomas of Kenya after groups allied to Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and fellow gubernatorial aspirant Peter Kenneth clashed.

The two factions are said to have differed over the composition of the election board which will oversee the party nominations.
