3 Suspects Arrested in Nairobi's Eastleigh Area With IEBC Material

Police are holding three suspects who were busted illegally registering voters at a lodging in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

Nairobi Police commander Japheth Koome confirmed the arrest noting that the suspects were found with 81 photocopies of identification cards, one photocopy of a passport and 33 voter transfer forms.

An eyewitness identified as Mohamed Isak Ali disclosed that he walked to Maslah Lodge along 11th Street and witnessed the process of voter transfer on Saturday evening.

“This was being done by people who are not officials of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission,” Ali, who is also a clan elder in Eastleigh claimed.

Mr Ali added that they rushed to Pangani police station and informed officers about the ongoing activities.

It was later established the three were collecting details of eligible voters with plans to transfer them to Mandera North Constituency.

The three were taken to Pangani Police Station.

On its Twitter page, the IEBC has clarified that the suspects were not found with any BVR kits as earlier on rumoured.

"They are in custody for being in possession of copies of transfer forms and not biometric voter registration kit as alleged," IEBC stated.
