Cyrus Jirongo Demands Ksh250 Million Compensation From Sonko's Govt

Former Presidential candidate and businessman Cyrus Jirongo has sued Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's administration for Ksh250 million.

According to the former legislator, the money ought to be compensation for a parcel of land allegedly taken away from him by the Nairobi City Council nearly ten years ago.

Through his lawyer Kenneth  Kiplagat, Jirongo on Thursday filed the suit on the land titled Kuza Firm  & Allied Limited which he affirms that it belongs to him.

Mr Jirongo has sued Sonko and the County Executive Committee member for finance Newton Munene

Expressing his disappointment, Jirongo noted that the county government is reluctant to compensate him his rightful dues.

"I have personally been to the County government’s offices more than 50 times but I have constantly been told to wait as they are experiencing some financial challenges," a frustrated Jirongo mentioned.

According to the court documents seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Jirongo claimed that the court had ordered for him to be paid the mentioned monies by July 28, 2016, an order that the county has disregarded.

He alleged that the row over the disputed land started way back in 2008 when the Nairobi City Council purported to allocate it to third parties forcing him to take the matter to court.

The former minister further declared that both the National Lands Commission (NLC) and the Attorney General had confirmed that he is the bonafide owner of the disputed land but the county government has failed to pay him.

Mr Jirongo, who was a presidential candidate on a United Democratic Party ticket in the August 8, 2017 polls, challenged the legality of the receivership of the farm in court.

In October last year, High Court judge Olga Sewe found the former Lugari MP unable to pay Ksh700 million he owed eight companies hence declared him as bankrupt.
