Refugees are associated with suffering and dejection but the TEDx show in Kenya is expected to change this narrative.

Themed under the tag "thrive", the show is expected to showcase how refugees author changes not only their lives but those of the communities and countries in which they live.

Kenya plays host to arguably the World's largest refugee camp - Daabab which host over 500,000 asylum seekers.

The government has threatened to close down the camp over allegations of playing role in the increased cases of terror attacks from Al Shabaab militants.

On the other hand, Kakuma which was established in 1992 plays host to over 185,000 refugees.

The refugees from South Sudan, Somalia, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo exemplify this spirit of resilience which the show intends to highlight.

Moving stories of hope and tenacity have emerged from the sprawling mass of tents in the refugee camp including more than 2,000 businesses which are in operation.

For instance, Kakuma camp and the surrounding area have an estimated marketplace value of over Ksh5.6 billion according to a recent International Finance Corporation survey.
