Wiper Responds After MP Kamket Disclosed Kalonzo, Gideon Moi Alliance in the Works

The Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM-K) has rubbished comments by Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket disclosing that KANU leader Gideon Moi is working to form a new alliance with their party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Kamket stated that a deal to unite the leaders was in the pipeline and would be sealed ahead of the 2022 General Election in which both are expected to vie for the top seat.

When contacted by Kenyans.co.ke, Wiper Secretary General Peter Mathuki dismissed the lawmaker's utterances as personal opinions that should not be taken as the party's official position.

Referencing the rebranding of Wiper to One Kenya Movement (OKM), Mathuki explained that they were interested in reaching out to Kenyans across the country and not just powerful individuals.

"That is his own thinking. We are not talking to individuals, we are talking about an all-inclusive outreach to Kenyans in every part of this country," he stated.

Gideon has recently been in a series of high-profile meetings sparking speculation that he was putting together a strong team for his planned presidential bid.

After meeting Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua a few weeks ago, Moi met Mombasa county boss Ali Hassan Joho.

Both Governors have clearly voiced their interest in the country's top seat come 2022.

Following the nullification of Mutua's election by the Court of Appeal on Friday, Mathuki, who is also Wiper Gubernatorial candidate Wavinya Ndeti's running mate made it clear that Wiper would wrestle back the seat.

He dissuaded Mutua from challenging the ruling at the Supreme Court, urging him to instead square it out at the ballot box.

"I can tell you for free, Wiper won that election. I would tell him not to go to the Supreme Court, let him come and face the people," Mathuki stated.
