Raila Odinga Maintains ODM is Not Worried by Political Coalitions Ahead of 2022 Election

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has stated that his party is not worried about any recent political developments in the country.

The former Prime Minister's statement comes after reports of an ongoing coalition negotiation between the KANU leader Gideon Moi, Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka and ANC's Musalia Mudavadai.

Odinga on Wednesday through his spokesperson Dennis Onyango maintained that ODM was not on the campaigning trail and is not threatened by those who are preparing for the 2022 General Election.

The statement read: “ODM is singularly focused on ensuring that proposed reforms contained in the Building Bridges Initiative are realized as a way to a stable nation that provides required services to citizens.”

The Opposition leader noted that ODM’s upcoming joint retreat of the party’s Parliamentary Group as well as the National Executive Committee, was agreed on at their last meeting held on May 8, 2018, in Naivasha.

He, therefore, maintained that the retreat was “not a product of panic or a reaction to any recent political developments as reported in sections of the media today.”

Earlier on reports had alleged that KANU had started structured talks with ODM, Wiper and some members of Jubilee ahead of the 2022 elections.

The party, which has not fronted a presidential candidate since 2002, has also begun a nationwide campaign to rebrand and revitalise its branches in preparation for the widely anticipated power struggle in 2022.

Tiaty MP William Kamtet, a staunch Kanu supporter, revealed that the talks were meant to bolster support for Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, who the party intends to field as its presidential candidate in 2022.

KANU’s revival comes in the wake of campaigns by Deputy President William Ruto - who is believed to be a strong contender for the top seat - in readiness for the 2022 political fight.
