KANU in Talks With ODM to Form an Alliance

Independence party KANU has started structural talks with Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Party to contemplate the formation of an alliance ahead of the 2022 elections.

The party which has not had a presidential aspirant for the last three general elections is also in talks with Wiper party, Amani National Congress and is reportedly seeking to incubate some jubilee Mps.

While addressing a party meeting in Nairobi, Tiaty MP William Kamket indicated their plan to front Gideon Moi as a presidential aspirant in 2022.

“We are in deep talks with ODM and some Jubilee members to work together. For jubilee I know there is a section that will compete with us but we are targeting those that will not compete,” he mentioned.

However, he refused to disclose how far the talks had progressed.

“We have decided to have a realistic presidential candidate for 2022 thus we have initiated talks with like minded parties to ensure that we win. Talks with other party leader are progressing well and there is a high hope for us,” Kamket revealed.

The legislator urged the member who had left the party to rejoin the movement.

“All leaders who started their careers in KANU should return. We are ready to welcome them, even those ‘tanga-tangaring’ should come back,” he noted.

He also called on party members to ready themselves for an extensive re-branding across the country.

“We encourage members to rebrand the branch offices and reclaim those that have been encroached,” the Tiaty MP directed.

Talks with ODM are speculated to have started a month ago when KANU officials accompanied Odinga to visit former President Daniel Moi.

Gideon also met Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho who is a staunch supporter of Raila and is also the deputy ODM party leader.
