Somali National Asks to Be Deported After Attempt on Life of Wajir Politician

A Somalia national accused of attempting to kill a politician on Thursday pleaded with the court to release his travel documents and send him to the United Kingdom.

Mr Jamal Mohamed allegedly attempted to take the life of Wajir South parliamentary aspirant Hussein Mohamed on September 17, 2017.

Jamal is said to have caused serious bodily harm to Hussein in an incident that took place at Eastleigh 7th street in Kamukunji.

The accused, who is an American citizen, asked to be released citing that he and his wife who lives abroad were trying to conceive.

He further told the court that he was scheduled to meet with a surrogate mother in the UK and that he was under medication that needed to be refilled by his doctor abroad.

The politician who filed the suit against Jamal told the court that the American was only seeking to waste the court's time.

Hussein added that Jamal was only trying to evade being served with court papers by seeking to leave the country.

The accused was also charged with being in Kenya illegally due to his nationality status.

The American citizen denied all charges and was released on a Kenyan surety of Ksh300,000.

The case was adjourned to be heard again on June 28.
