Victor Wanyama Meets Raila Odinga at Capitol Hill Office

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and Kenya national team Captain Victor Wanyama on Tuesday met National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga at his Capitol Hill offices in Nairobi.

Wanyama who has been in Kenya during the English Premier League (EPL) off-season held discussions with the opposition chief on the state of football in the country.

The Harambee Stars skipper gifted Raila a signed Tottenham jersey before they posed for a number of photos together.

Raila disclosed that he appealed to Wanyama to mentor young talented Kenyan footballers who aspire to play at the highest level.

"@VictorWanyama of @SpursOfficial called on me at Capitol Hill sq. I urged him to mentor other young Kenyans to follow his footsteps and lift the standards of football in the country," he wrote on Twitter.

Wanyama has been involved in several projects since returning from England including football clinics, community tournaments and charity missions.

He ended the 2017/18 season with his club's Goal of the Season award for a stunning strike against Liverpool as Tottenham finished in 3rd place on the log.

Raila recently met a group of Kenyan football legends who paid him a courtesy call after forming a new association to guarantee their welfare.

He promised to ensure that the living standards of those who donned the Kenyan jersey were improved in the meeting with retired stars such as Joe KadengeMarshal Mulwa, John Bobby Ogolla, Mahmmoud Abass, Victor Onyango, John “Shoto” Lukoye, Josiah Ougo, George Waweru, James Ojiambo and Swaleh Oswayo.

The former Prime Minister reminisced on his playing days at Luo Union FC while Kadenge was at Abaluhyia Football Club, endorsing community clubs as Kenyan football's saving grace.

Mheshimiwa (Raila) you are my long time friend from the fifties when I was playing and I have confidence through you, we, the legends will get recognition,” stated Kadenge.
