Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Tuesday made an urgent plea to leaders in Kisumu and Nandi counties among them Governors Anyang' Nyong'o and Stephen Sang.
The CS was speaking in Nakuru where he chaired a consultative Peace Forum for Nandi and Kisumu Council of elders on sustainable peace and security along the Muhoroni-Nandi Border.
He urged all political leaders in the two counties to take measure to quell tension on matters regarding the dispute over the boundaries.

"The counties could be models for inter counties relationships. Our focus is peaceful coexistence. We don't want to spend resources deploying police officers at the border.
"I want to assure the two governors that we will support you from our Ministry's budget especially when you do the exchange visits and we will work with you to ensure we build peace in our communities," he affirmed.

He added that the new-found unity could be emulated in other areas as well.
"We can get someone for other counties as well so that he can learn and repeat it between Kajiado and Machakos," he conveyed.
Earlier in May, the Nandi County Government presented a petition to the National Lands Commission (NLC) to adjust the border with Kisumu county.
In the petition which is backed by the Governor, the Nandi community is seeking to have towns and centres around Chemelil, Muhoroni, Miwani, Kibigori, Kibos, Koru and Kopere moved to the county.
The community wanted the border revised to the Nyando River which they claim served as ‘the natural border before the Nandi were displaced by the white settler.’
"The Nandi were forcefully evicted from their ancestral homes in Chemelil, Muhoroni, Miwani, Kibigori, Kibos, Koru and Kopere by white settler," the petition read in part.
