Sports CS Rashid Achesa Asks Raila to Take Lifestyle Audit Over Ksh1 Billion Kisumu Home

Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rashid Achesa on Sunday put Opposition leader Raila Odinga on the spot over a Ksh1 Billion home he built in Kisumu.

CS Achesa invited the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader to undergo a lifestyle audit over the multi-million home he allegedly built while he was still Prime Minister.

The CS argued that the directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta on a mandatory lifestyle audit for public officials ought to be extended to also Opposition leaders who served in government in the past.

Achesa detailed that the construction of the Riat Hills mansion belonging to the former prime minister coincided with his term in office.

"As we speak today, Hon. Raila Odinga is my neighbour in Kisumu, he owns a house worth Ksh.1 billion on the hills. Let him also be ready to be accountable to Kenyans.

"He built that house when he was Prime Minister. Let him be ready to tell Kenyans the source of those funds because we know his salary was Ksh.1.2 million and his mortgage was Ksh.40 million.

"So how does a Ksh40 Million mortgage build a house worth Ksh1 Billion?," the CS posed.

He added that he was ready to undergo the exercise and declare the source of his "fifty bicycles" as the self-proclaimed "village boy".

Earlier in the week, Mr Odinga had endorsed the call by President Kenyatta and expressed readiness to undergo the exercise himself.

"We remain in the position that what is good for Kenya is good for ODM. The war on corruption is good for Kenya and we are in it fully, lifestyle audit on leaders is good for Kenya and personally I am ready for it," he stated.
