Kikuyu Council of Elders Want DP Ruto to Retire

The Kikuyu Council of Elders now wants Deputy President William Ruto to retire from politics when President Uhuru Kenyatta's term ends in 2022.

The council's national secretary general Peter Munga stated that Ruto's time would end as Uhuru exits because he is part of the presidency.

“As a Council, we are very serious that he [Ruto] has to pack with Uhuru. If Uhuru has to leave in 2022, the deputy should follow suit," he declared.

Munga added that Ruto had already served the country in his capacity as the second-in-command.

“If he has given his best, what would he be doing after 10 years? He would be obsolete,” he explained.

That latest call alludes to a mismatch of interests among the decision makes in the Mount Kenya region.

Earlier in the week, leaders from Mount Kenya East declared that the DP must pick a running mate from the region for them to support his bid for the presidency in 2022.

Speaking in Tharaka-Nithi County headquarters during a ceremony to commission a newly constructed governor’s office, the leaders affirmed they would work to secure the DP's position.

Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki stated that the region was fronting Senator Kithure Kindiki to become the DP's running mate in 2022 and pleaded with leaders from the larger Mount Kenya region to support him.

The MP stated: "Already we have fronted Prof Kindiki who has worked with DP for a long time to be his running mate in the year 2022."
