DP William Ruto Explains His Countrywide Trips With New Title

Deputy President William Ruto on Monday announced his self-given title of "Principal Assistant to the President" during a visit to Nyamira County.

The deputy president who has been ridiculed for intense countrywide trips sought to explain why the trips were necessary as he gave an address following the launch of the Keroka Water Supply and Sanitation Project.

"The President of the Republic of Kenya, because he is my boss, has allowed me to do this work because I am the Principal Assistant to the President and I am doing the work of the government of Kenya," he announced.

He went on to outline the various projects he had launched in the region during his visit including a Kshs500 Million electrification programme dubbed the Last Mile project he witnessed during a visit to Mama Monica Tora Momanyi of Matangi village.

"Isn't this the work of the deputy president?" he posed, "So, people shouldn't be troubled with me when I'm doing the work the people of Kenya gave me to do," he stated.

DP Ruto has been the subject of discussions following his numerous trips to attend church services and launch projects within the country.

In one of the DP's trips to the Coast region, Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa (ODM) declared that she would support him for the presidency in 2022.

The declaration has since earned the Opposition party MP backlash from her party leaders and a threat of demotion from her Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) post.

President Uhuru Kenyatta also hit out at his deputy for the tours by calling them "kutangatanga (loitering)".

"Hii kijana anaitwa Ruto kila wikendi anatangatanga kila pahali. Atakuwa anapitia hizi machorochoro. Mkiona kuna kitu inaenda konakona mmwambie (This young man called Ruto moves around every weekend traversing the country. He will be passing through these roads. If you see something is not being done right you should tell him).

"Tuhakikishe kazi ya wananchi imefanyika. Tuwache siasa tufanye kazi (We should make sure the citizens are served. Let us stop politicking and get down to work)," the president stated.

Here is a video posted by State House official Dennis Itumbi on the DP's address.
