KAPU Denies Reports of Richard Ndubai's Attempt to Flee to Dubai

The Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU) has denied reports that National Youth Service (NYS) Director-General Richard Ndubai attempted to flee the country on Wednesday night after being released on bail in the ongoing Sh9 Billion corruption case.

Reports had emerged indicating that Ndubai was removed from Emirates Flight EK0722 to Dubai from Nairobi.

This raised several questions on how he was booked on the flight given that his travel documents including his passport had been seized by the court.

"We don't have any such information," a KAPU official maintained when contacted by Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday morning.

It had been alleged that intelligence officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) flagged Ndubai's booking and pounced on him.

The booking had reportedly been handled entirely by a travel agent.

After spending 32 days in remand, Ndubai was released on Wednesday from custody after stringent bond terms were set by the court.

Others who were released include suspended Youth Principal Secretary Lilian Mbogo Omollo and Stephen Muchai, an internal auditor at the Treasury.

The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji had vehemently opposed an application to grant the suspects bail, noting that many of the suspects were flight risks.

The suspects were ordered to deposit their Kenyan passports or any other travel documents with the court and report to DCI offices once a week.
