President Uhuru Kenyatta Sends CS Monica Juma to African Union Summit

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday announced that he would not be attending Africa Union Summit in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu issued a statement explaining that the President would not be attending the summit due to urgent state matters.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta has been held back by urgent state matters and will not attend the African Union Summit in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

"The President has deployed Dr. Amb. Monica Juma, CS for Foreign Office KE, to lead Kenya's delegation to the summit this weekend," concluded the statement.

Under the tweet that has since been deleted by State House account, Kenyans wondered why the Uhuru opted for the CS instead of his DP.

Additionally, Kenyans were haste to state that the President ought to have sent his deputy William Ruto to represent him at the event if he is unable to attend.

Noting previous engagements, Kenyans mentioned that the DP represented Uhuru in previous foreign engagements including, in May 2017 when he represented the President at the East African Community (EAC) Head of States Summit.

Netizens went ahead to exclaim that this could be a clear indication of the divisions in the Jubilee camp.

One Mahir commented: "Very unfortunate Uhuru is taking our country in the wrong direction. The DP is supposed to represent the president in such duties. We will see at end of the tunnel. Bad days ahead for the country."

Yet another one mentioned: "Feel like laughing Where’s Ruto?"

Erick Cheruiyot wrote, "CS instead of his principal assistant DP, Uhuru wake up now."

Replying to the post by State House, Kibet Koech said: "Hahaha which state matters. I thought Ruto is his deputy."
