How Much You Will be Charged for Taking Selfies in Makueni County

A fee has been proposed for people taking photographs in Makueni County using their mobile phones.

The county announced they will start charging Ksh100 to people taking pictures with their phones but it is unclear how this will be enforced.

In the new taxes proposed by the county, local musicians fond of performing with live bands will pay Ksh1,000 per night for an entertainment permit.

According to Finance Executive Mary Kimanzi, local operators of film/video shows will also pay Ksh1,500 per day.

Elsewhere in Nyeri, the county government will charge residents who enjoy soup and mutura from eateries with open kitchens, including by the roadside.

The county proposed the introduction of a Ksh8,000 licence fee to butchers who sell take-away meals such as roast meat or soup in urban areas while those operating in rural areas will pay Ksh5,000.

Other absurd proposals included a Ksh2 tax to have a rabbit or chicken slaughtered and Ksh5 for their chickens or rabbits to be inspected by veterinary services.

In Trans-Nzoia, the county government announced they will tax women who roast maize by the roadside.  

Meanwhile, in Siaya, street preachers will pay Sh20,000 upfront per day to use lawns maintained by the county government if the Finance Bill 2018 is approved.
