Two men in Embu have been arraigned in Court over a 2018 FIFA World Cup after their bet on a Spain win went south.
The two Victor Macharia and Marcus Mugendi told the court that they had placed a substantial amount of money on a possible win by Spain in the Round-of-16 stage of the matches.
However, Spain lost to Russia in a 3-4 penalty shoot after a 1-1 draw in the field which led to them losing their bet.

The resulting frustration led Macharia and Mugendi into a drinking spree that saw the two use abusive words in public.
Pleading guilty to the charges, the two told Embu Resident Magistrate Jean Ndengeri that they "drunk to ease the pain" they were feeling after their team, Spain, lost to Russia and got bundled out of the World Cup.
In their defence, Macharia and Mugendi indicated that they could not contain the loss and found themselves cursing when they were arrested on July 2, 2018, at around 10 pm.
Following their admission of being drunk and disorderly, Magistrate Ndengeri sentenced the two to jail for one month or a fine of Ksh500 after they pleaded for leniency and promised not to repeat the that they would not repeat the crime.
Kenyans have maintained their loyal enthusiasm frenzy in spectating the Russia FIFA World Cup 2018 with the football talk dominating TV and social media talks.
The unexpected ouster of Japan in the last 16 stage by Belgium on Monday, however, was a clear indicator of how football is rarely predictable.
As Kenyans grappled with Japans' loss despite an early 2-0 lead, Kenyans came up with a clever way to save the face following the disappointment from what appeared to be an obvious win.

Quoting the 26-year-old song "Stella Wangu", by Freshly Mwamburi, tweeps indicated that Japans' ouster from the 2018 World Cup was a befitting payback for what a Japanese did to a son of Kenya.
The hilarious creativity saw Kenyans quickly turn Japan's loss into a World Cup love story winding it around the momentous return of Stella to Kenya and the resulting heartbreak.
