DPP Noordin Haji Now Eyes 2 More Governors

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji revealed that his team was ready to move in on two governors who were on his radar.

On Friday, another governor would have been the second in a week after Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong, who was arraigned in court to answer to charges of impropriety.

“We have a number of files in different stages. As at now, I have completed those of two more governors. We are also tightening loose ends for the fourth governor’s papers,” Hajji stated.

A special unit, the Multi-Agency Task Team (MATT) led by the Attorney General Paul Kihara is currently spearheading the fight against corruption.

Reports indicated that the task team, which reports directly to the President, was also in the process of receiving polygraph machines they will use during the vetting of officers.

The team, according to Saturday Standard, was mandated to not only ensure prosecution but also freeze assets of those found culpable.

Notably, close kin of anyone found guilty will also be affected by the crackdowns since investigations showed that graft at the county levels saw the money trail followed from the county coffers leading to close relatives and friends of governors through layers of companies.

Cabinet and Principal Secretaries, parastatal heads and agency bosses are said to have been put under the microscope and findings into their lifestyles and acquired wealth documented.

The team, according to the Saturday Standard, is also credited with the arrest of Kebs officials and the removal of KPA managing director who had failed to prevent the entry of counterfeit goods.

The ongoing crackdown has caused panic amongst individuals formerly thought to be untouchable as the usual lobbying by those fearing they are part of the list doesn’t cut it anymore, perhaps due to MATT’s composition.
