Director of Criminal Investigations Issues Warning To Kenyan Students

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has warned Kenyan youth across all learning institutions against engaging in crimes while in school.

In a statement sent out by the DCI under #IfikieMastude banner on social media, learners in colleges, universities, high schools and pupils have been put on notice.

The DCI has warned that student criminal records will now be kept and shall always be reflected on their certificates of good conduct issued by the police.

“This is to warn every student from Primary School, Secondary School, College and University that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations is archiving and consolidating charges that may be preferred to each and every student involved in any Crime,” warned DCI in the statement.

The statement indicated that the youngsters should be wary of their conduct as any criminal charges would automatically reflect on their good conduct records, a situation that would lock out many from potential employers.

The DCI indicated that; “This will be a Permanent Criminal mark that will bar many students from achieving their goals as no employer of worth will dare employ such characters.”

Parents, guardians and religious leaders of also been asked to take charge of the learners’ behavior. There have been cases of student unrests as a result of religious inclinations.

The offenses include; armed and unpeaceable demonstrations, arson, drug abuse, cyber-bullying, assault of any degree, drunkenness and any other form of reported crime.

This month alone, at least eight schools have been closed mostly in Nyanza after student protests. A number of the schools had dormitories burned and property destroyed.

Early this year, Jamhuri high school was closed after students engaged a serious fight that left at least five wounded.
