Musalia Mudavadi Reveals Plan to Rebuild Opposition

National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principal Musalia Mudavadi on Sunday admitted that the opposition has been rattled and shaken by the Uhuru-Raila handshake.

Speaking at Redeemed Gospel Church in Kisumu, Mudavadi further confessed that the opposition lost its vibrancy and got weakened thanks to the handshake.

"People (in the opposition) are now nervous. Even those in Parliament and the Senate cannot speak loudly because they don't know whether or not they will be annoying some people," the Amani National Congress leader noted.

According to Mudavadi, even the most fierce parliamentarians allied to the opposition have taken a back seat to avoid conflict of interest - possibly with the party leader.

"They don't know how to handle issues because they are not sure whether they would be accused of rocking the boat from inside. They are just tiptoeing even on very serious matters," he stated.

However, Mudavadi revealed that he is personally embarking on strategies that will revamp the opposition and reinstate its role in instilling checks and balances for the government.

"Acknowledging and working with the government on certain issues should not be at the cost of killing the opposition,"

Without divulging the details on the said strategy, Mudavadi revealed: "We are working on it.  I am personally working on it and you will soon see a very aggressive opposition."

The NASA co-principal acknowledged that the opposition plays an important role as the government's watchdog, a position that has seemingly been left vacant after the exit of Raila Odinga - a strong critic of government's misdeeds.

"We owe the people a strong opposition and we will ensure this happens," Mudavadi emphasized his commitment.

There have been concerns following the historic handshake with a section of Kenyans opining that the opposition had been emasculated by the "building bridges to a new Kenyan nation" initiative.
